After more than half a century, The Silver Spoon has been translated into English. This bible of Italian cooking, Italy’s best-selling cookbook, was the brainchild of Italian media company Domus, which dispatched an army of experts in the 1940s to collect authentic, regional recipes from households throughout Italy. The best Italian cooking originates in the home, they argued, and The Silver Spoon would preserve traditional recipes before they were lost. The book was an immediate success—more than two million copies have been sold since its debut in 1950—and it’s one of Italy’s most popular wedding gifts today.
The updated collection features more than 2,000 traditional recipes—from lasagne bolognese to frogs' legs genovese—organized in color-coded sections with playful illustrations. The final section has recipes from the best and brightest in Italian cuisine today, including Arrigo Cipriani of Harry's Bar in Venice and chef Mario Batali, featured in "Pasta and the Modern Man"(Food & Wine).
